Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland"

I have previously blogged about this movie being rehash, but have changed my mind upon viewing the film. My previous complaint, was that Tim Burton has become unoriginal. He seems to only redo classics and other people's stories nowadays. I couldn't imagine why we would need yet another version of Alice in Wonderland. What I didn't know was that this a sequel of sorts. The story follows 13 years after the original story. The new Alice is an adult who is about to become married and ends up following The White Rabbit once again and ending up back in Wonderland.

My thanks to Tim Burton for at least bringing in some sort of a new story here. The special effects are breathtaking and somewhat reminiscent to Lord of the Rings. The old characters are all still there (The Mad Hatter, The Caterpillar, a creepy version of the Cheshire Cat, and The Red Queen). Longtime Burton collaborators, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp were appropriately cast. Helena Bonham Carter was a standout as the evil Red Queen. The only weak link here was Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, who didn't seem interesting enough to fit into Tim Burton's twisted world. Newcomer Mia Wasikowska was a very strong Alice and at one point puts on a knight suit to fight a dragon-like creature (extremely girl-powerish). A must see.

Sounds like a must see. Gonna re-think this one as well. Anne Hathaway does not seem like she would fit into this world.
