Teena Marie 1956-2010
So sad. "The Ivory Queen of Soul" has passed away at age 54. She will be missed. I think almost no one has more soul than she does (black or white). "Lady T", we will miss you, your music will live on. I remember loving this video for "Lovergirl", she was really rocking it with that guitar.

The Green Hornet Trailer
I like everything about this movie so far except lead actor Seth Rogen. I usually enjoy director Michel Gondry's films "Eternal Sunshine..." and "The Science of Sleep" as well as the interesting videos he has directed for Bjork. When I saw that Cameron Diaz was the love interest, I was pretty much sold. The sidekick, Jay Chou also delivers. We'll see if this film is any good, it worries me that they keep pushing back the release date. I think it was actually supposed to come out last summer. The new release date is January 14th, 2011 and it will be in very exciting 3-D.

"Lost The Complete Collection"
I don't think that I blogged about this already, but I just felt the need to mention the awesomeness that is "Lost The Complete Collection." It is amazing, and a fan's wet dream. First of all, the box is shaped like a pyramid. It contains the complete series, an awesome booklet that has a summary of every episode. It has discs that are hidden within the box set. It just gives and gives. I don't think that a fan could ask for anything more. The collectible ankh (yes it has collectible ankh)has a map inside of it. I was so consumed with watching this set for a while that family and friends started to think that I had developed an addiction.
If you are rich, please buy this set for a Lost fan (they will love you forever). This is supposed to be the season of giving, right?
Special Features include:
*Over 3 Hours of Never-Before-Seen Bonus

*Planet Lost: Examine the worldwide phenomenon
*Artifacts Of The Island: Inside the Lost Prop House: The cast, writers, and producers explore the show's legendary props and discuss their significance and emotional ties to the characters.

Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere"
Sofia Coppola has a new film called "Somewhere" and it stars Stephen Dorff. I love her films and I'm sure I'll probably love this one as well. If I don't love it, then at least I can count on the soundtrack to deliver. I'm not sure how I feel about Stephen Dorff, but I do trust Coppola's vision. Looks like the soundtrack has lots of songs by Phoenix (the lead singer is the father of Sofia's children). From the trailer, the plot seems similar to Lost in Translation. It opens on December 22nd.

The Real Allison DuBois on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
Wow! Real life psychic medium Allison DuBois, was a dinner guest of Camille Grammar on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills last night and caused quite a stir during the dinner party. Allison was drinking a lot and being really rude to housewife Kyle Richards who does not get along with host Camille.
I enjoy the television show "Medium" which is based on the life of Allison DuBois and produced by Camille. I was extremely disappointed by her behavior, she (and Camille) were completely rude and inappropriate to Kyle and other dinner guests.
I thought I would show a clip, but instead found a bizarre reenactment with animated cute little bears. It's really strange to hear what they are saying, but most of this was actually said during this horrendous dinner party.

Odd Kevin Bacon commercial
Does anyone else find this commerical a little bizarre? I'm sure it's meant to be funny, but I just don't get it. Kevin Bacon pretending to be a Kevin Bacon fanatic. Someone please explain, he has completely lost me with this one. He looks very serial killerish creepy in this commercial. Maybe this guy is so obsessed with Kevin Bacon, that he has actually morphed into Kevin Bacon? I guess that is probably the whole point that I was not getting.
Lauryn Hill touring
I don't even know where to start with this one. Why is she always touring without new music to support? So, she's gonna tour to support what? If she sings new songs, that will be great. If she does not, then her fans will be paying money to hear old songs and Bob Marley tunes. Why is Lauryn Hill so rude to her fans? It's been since 1998, since her last real album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." As a fan, I am tired of waiting.
Anyway, here are the dates for her sorry tour.

Another new Kelis video for "Brave"
Kelis is on fire with this new album, I can't keep up with all of her new videos. This new video is also pretty good. Simple and to the point, just Kelis in a white outfit and with blond hair. I like it. I love her so much that I feel the need to promote her whenever possible. Stop sleeping on Kelis' music people, she has been interesting for many years now.

Halle Berry's "Frankie and Alice"
I had almost forgotten that Halle Berry is an actress, it's been so long since she has actually done a movie. She must be getting paid millions for those Revlon ads. This movie has been in development for a while and was supposed to come out in 2009, but got held up in distribution. It's about a woman with multiple personalities, and one of the personalities doesn't like black people (sounds interesting enough). Not sure about this one, but I do usually enjoy her performances enough to see the movie.

Kelis' "Scream" video
Kelis has a brand new video for "Scream." Her videos are pretty strange these days, she's wearing a really strange body suit that looks like the human muscular system. Remember Mr. Slim Goodbody that used to come on PBS in the '80's? (Yeah that's what her running suit looks like, but sexier). Anyway, here's a clip of the video. The song is great, I always enjoy her voice and her music.

The embarassing frog in Susan Boyle's throat
Poor Susan. She was performing live on the View, but had to suddenly halt her performance because her voice suddenly went out. I'm not a huge fan, but I felt so bad for that to happen to her on National television. Fortunately, the ladies on the View were quite understanding and invited her to come back anytime and sing whatever she wants. Poor British thing.

"F**k You!" Cee-Lo Green
Sorry, Just felt like saying it (it's the title of his new single). Cee-lo Green never fails to be interesting. What can't he do really? He can sing, produce, write, and rap. His new album entitled "The Lady Killer" is a little disappointing though. The problem that I have with it is that all of the songs sound quite similar.
All of the songs have a retro '60's kind of a groove, which makes me long for his hip-hop/rap sound or even his gospel-tinged sound. None of the songs really stand out from one another, but it definitely has an ongoing theme of groovy '60's love. His singing voice is wonderful as always. He sings with a couple of groovy ladies on this disc that stand out. "Love Gun" features Lauren Bennett and "Please" features Selah Sue. Both ladies are reminiscent of Teena Marie.
I applaud Cee-lo for stretching his boundaries, just miss his hip-hop roots this time around. My favorite tracks are "F**k You!" and "Fool For You" which features Phillip Bailey from Earth Wind and Fire. I give this album 2 1/2 stars, could be better.

Pete Burns and his horrible plastic surgery
I don't know if anyone got a chance to watch the "Celebrity Plastic Surgery-Gone Too Far" special on ABC last week, but if you didn't get a chance to see Pete Burns, then I have a clip for you. Pete Burns is the lead singer of 80's pop sensation Dead or Alive who sang "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)."
I think my jaw dropped open when I saw his plastic surgery, what was he thinking? And who let him do that to himself? It really is shocking that he walks around looking this way. He says that he had a botched procedure on his lips (but what about the rest of his face?). He says he hopes the doctor dies. His lips are so crazy, Burns says they were swollen and gushing puss (disgusting). You have to see this! Gone too far indeed.

Kanye West's "Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy"
Now this is exactly what I've been waiting for. The music is both interesting and innovative. While I may not like Kanye's politics or controversy, his music never fails to excite. The guests are also equally exciting. My favorite track "All of the Lights", has 11 guest vocalists in a chorus, including Alicia Keys, John Legend, The-Dream, Fergie, Kid Cudi, Elton John, Ryan Leslie, Charlie Wilson, Tony Williams, Elly Jackson, and Rihanna, who sings the song's main hook.
My favorite tracks include "Monster" with Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj and "Devil In A New Dress" which also features Rick Ross. I give it 4 stars, a hip-hop masterpiece. It is highly recommended.

Ryan Reynolds as People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive"
Ryan Reynolds? Really?? He is the most boring man that I have ever seen. Even his cover photo for People Magazine is pretty bland. He has been in great shape since he did Wolverine (I'll give him that), but his face is so plain and boring. His wife Scarlett Johansson is sexy, but he is not at all. I really would like to know who does their voting (maybe they gave him extra points for his body). His face is pretty blah and bland. Am I blind?

Beyonce's new video "Why Don't You Love Me?"
I love you Beyonce. With that said, I'll say that I do not like her new blond Betty Page type look. It's kind of hard to mess up that kind of beauty. The song and video are interesting enough (much better than her last pop fluff Sasha Fierce stuff). I would like to see her return to her RNB/Hip Hop roots, remember "Crazy in Love?" She is evolving. Maybe her new album will be amazing, this first single at least made me want to hear more. We'll stay tuned...

N.E.R.D. "Nothing"
The fourth N.E.R.D. album "Nothing" hits stores today, but I'm not really sure how to feel about it. It has similar musical style and lyrical content to their previous albums, but has less of a hip-hop feel. A couple of the songs sound very similar to each other. The grooves are more band-oriented this time around and less synthesized (they would probably sound great live). My problem really isn't the music, it's their lyrics. How many times do we need to hear about threesomes and partying? Just seems like they have already covered these themes many, many times before. They should have other things to talk about. To give them some credit, a couple of the songs are politically themed, but don't seem to work as well as some of the other songs(I guess they are trying to expand a little bit). To sum it all up, their music is great but the lyrics sometimes leave a little to be desired. Good, but could be better.
The CD did get better with additional listening, maybe I'll completely love it someday (but not today). The high points are "Life As A Fish"(which is way too short), "I've Seen The Light," "Nothing On You," and "Help Me."

HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
This zombie make-up was done by a professional movie effects make-up artist 2 years ago (it was awesome and was slowly trickling blood throughout the night). I was the lucky person in the audience who got picked to demonstrate the make-up artists' talents at a convention. It looked much grosser in person. It looked so disgusting that people wouldn't look at me in the face. It also took several hours to be completed. Seemed Halloween appropriate.

Happy Halloween!

"The Walking Dead"
This is a new series coming out on AMC. Based upon a comic book series of the same name. This might be my new favorite show, we'll see. I love anything that contains undead zombie goodness. The show premieres on Halloween (how appropriate). It looks like it is going to be pretty short, only about 6 episodes or so.
This is the plot synopsis (taken from Wikipedia)"The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the United States in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group's desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive."

Kanye West on SNL
A friend showed me this clip. It's an interesting performance, for some reason I kept thinking about it afterward. Why is he wearing a crown like Julius Caesar at the beginning of the performance? (Oh, I get it now, the song is called "Power.") His ego is way out of control, but he never fails to surprise. Definitely one of the strangest performances that I have seen on Saturday Night Live.

Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair"
I expected this to be much worse, it's actually kind of cute (if you are nine years old). Who knew Will and Jada's kids would be talented? It kinda sounds like Rihanna, her look is also Rihanna. I'm sure my nieces will love her. Ever since I have listened to it, it has been stuck in my head. "I whip my hair back and forth..." LOL.

The Mysterious Cities of Gold
This takes me way back. It was my favorite cartoon when I was a child, I would rush home to watch them. Apparently, there is still some interest in them. There are new seasons in production that are going to be airing in early 2012 according to Wikipedia. The theme song was real groovy, then and now. I remember that it didn't have an ending, they only found one of the seven cities and then they just stopped airing new episodes. Very exciting, I had almost forgotten about them and for some reason they recently popped into my head. Whenever I would mention this cartoon to any of my friends, they would think that I was crazy. No one seemed to remember it, glad to know that I am not crazy and that someone else does remember. The entire series is out now on DVD. I skeptically purchased this set recently, thinking that the episodes might not be as exciting as I remembered. Surprising, they were much better than I remembered (they may have even been a bit complex at times for a six-year child at the time). So glad I bought this. Their adventures are so exciting (Mayan tombs, secret passages, ancient primitive cultures, hieroglyphics). I couldn't stop watching them once I started. a very satisfying aniamted series to watch. Please check it out if you can.

Michaele Salahi Barbie doll
Does Mattel not have anything better to do? It seems silly to me that Michaele Salahi, Real Housewife of DC and notorious White House Crasher, would have her own doll. Who is going to buy this? What mom is going to pick this up for their little girl? I have to say that it really does look like her though, at first I thought it was a real picture of her and not a doll. Seems to be in poor taste, she might be slightly famous (or infamous) but no where near worthy of having a doll made in her image. Give me a break! I would just like to see who is going to buy it.

Les Nubians "Nu Revolution"
The Afropean French sister duo Les Nubians have a new EP titled "Nu Revolution." It is their first musical offering since 2003's "One Step Forward." I am excited to hear new music from them, but the new music is only sold online through their official website. The website offers almost no information as to what songs are on the EP or what they sound like (they do offer a free download for one song called "Liberte" which sounds pretty nice). Download link:
http://www.lesnubians.com/liberte.zip
EPs generally only have about 5 or 6 songs, but the price is listed as $15.99 (seems slightly expensive for only a couple of songs that they won't give you any information about). I'll probably wait until I can tell what is on the EP before I purchase, but here is the first single "Liberte."
Update: I took a chance and purchased the CD anyway. I was glad that I did, their new music is great. The E.P. has seven tracks:
"Nu Queens Intro"
"African For The Future"
"Les Gens"
"Fraicheur Souhaitee"
"Liberté"
"Veuillez Veiller Sur Vos Reves"
"Nu Revolution"

Bristol Palin's Score on Dancing With The Stars...
I don't usually watch "Dancing With The Stars," but I was mildly curious because I seemed to know much more about this cast than any of the previous seasons (It was as awful as I thought it would be). I laughed out loud when I saw that Bristol Palin's score from the judges was 6 6 6. Maybe the universe is trying to tell us a little something.

Cree Summer as a cartoon voice
I have always enjoyed Cree Summer. From her TV work on "A Different World" to her singing album "Street Fairy" she is talented in many ways. I always wonder what she has been up to because I don't see her on TV so much. Apparently, she is one of the most sought after cartoon voices on television. She has been doing voices for cartoons for years and gets paid a lot of money doing such. It was interesting to hear her talk about the character process for one of the many cartoon character voices that she does.

"For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf..." Trailer
Wow what a cast. I think every black actress in Hollywood (besides Halle Berry) is in this film. Also appears to be more complex than Tyler Perry's usual dramatic efforts, probably because he did not write this one. Looks interesting.
*I saw this movie on opening weekend. The performances were great by everyone. My favorites were Macy Gray, Phylicia Rashad, Thandie Newton, Whoopi and Kimberly Elise. The subject matter was just too much for me; rape, abortion, cheating, abuse it goes on and on. This was a good movie, it was just very bleak for most of the film. It almost has no happiness or at least not enough. Kudos to Tyler Perry for stepping up the complexity though.

McDonald's Attack!!
I should have posted this earlier, but it is still unbelievable. I saw this on the Soup or somewhere else. This crazy woman wanted McNuggets during breakfast hours and went completely berserk when she was told by the staff that they were only serving breakfast at this time. What a nutcase! She fights with 2 women in the window and then shatters the glass (I guess she really wanted them). It doesn't show it in this clip, but afterward they serve the next customer though the broken glass window as if nothing had even happened. Maybe it happens there all the time.

Kettle Brand Baked Potato Chips
These are my new favorite thing in the whole world. I have a secret weakness for potato chips (like Kryptonite to Superman). Baked potato chips usually will satisfy, but they usually leave me wanting their original greasy counterpart. I particularly like the crisp crunchiness of Kettle Brand Chips, so I was curious as to how different these would taste from the original. Surprisingly, they taste just as good and are much healthier (only about 100 calories per serving). I was blown away by their taste. I think if I hadn't been told that they were baked, i probably wouldn't know the difference. They are just as tasty and crunchy as the fried chips. If you haven't tried these already (and love potato chips), I would highly recommend these. Enjoy!

Black Swan
This movie looks interesting. It is directed by Darren Aronofsky who also directed "The Wrestler" and "Requiem For A Dream." It is a thriller that stars Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder. It looks a little disturbing, I think she might actually turn into a Black Swan. The visuals are interesting enough. There's already Oscar-buzz for Natalie and Winona for this one.
Review: I'm obsessed with this film. I've seen it twice now and it keeps getting better. It has everything that I would want in a film. Great acting and also visually stunning. There wasn't one thing that I did not love about this movie. It was completely creepy, but still managed to be beautiful at the same time (which is hard to achieve). Natalie Portman will win the best actress Oscar for certain. A must see!

Drew Barrymore...
Now don't get me wrong, I love Drew Barrymore. We are the same age, so I tend to relate to her in some ways. I also feel as if I have grown up watching her in movies, but it seems like she keeps making the same movie over and over. Her new film, "Going the Distance" which co-stars her ex-beau Justin Long is the same cutesy date night fare that she has been churning out for the past few years (oh wait! they're dating long distance, that's the difference). Plot looks the same, her and some guy in a romantic comedy with an 80's inspired soundtrack. Just like "The Wedding Singer" "Music and Lyrics" "Fever Pitch" "He's Just Not That Into You" and probably countless others that I cannot recall at this time (they're all basically the same movie). In spite of this redundancy, I still manage to enjoy her performances most of the time. I just think she needs to switch it up a bit and do something else every once in a while. Is that too much to ask?

Machete Trailer
This movie looks completey crazy! We'll see if I can tolerate Jessica Alba and Lindsey Lohan this time around (Ms. Alba usually spells out terrible movie for me). Michelle Rodriguez rocks my world, and how awesome does she look with all those guns and the eye patch. "They've messed with the wrong Mexican!" Too funny. Looks action-packed.

Erykah Badu's "Window Seat II"
After her bizarre nakedness for the part I "Window Seat" video, I wasn't sure what we should expect for the follow-up video (which is why I always love her). Erykah always manages to be innovative and interesting at every turn. It appears that she is now robbing stores in her new video which features 2 songs, "Window Seat" (remix) and "Get Munny." Take a look below.

Oldie, but goodie: Res' "Golden Boys" video
I love Res and feel that she is a great artist that not a lot of people know about. Musically, I think she is difficult to classify (some say trip-hop). This song is several years old, but is still quite good. If you don't know about Res, then maybe you should check her out. She is also in the group Idle Warship along with rapper Talib Kweli and Graph Nobel. Enjoy!

President Obama on "The View"
This is the first time in history that a sitting president has come onto a daytime talk show. It was a very big deal. He says that part of the reason why he came on the show is because his wife Michelle enjoys the show so much. As always, he seemed poised and relaxed. It sometimes felt like a Public Relations ploy (his ratings have declined since the BP oil spill, where some of the public felt he didn't respond soon enough). It was nice to see him in this kind of format. He was even able to school Elisabeth Hasselbeck a little bit when she went in on him about the economy and layoffs. Everyone appeared to be on their best behavior otherwise, even Barbara who has been away recuperating from heart surgery made a special appearance for the event.
It will be interesting to see what President Obama's detractors will have to say about this television appearance and the motives behind it. At one point he was asked what he listens to on his Ipod, he said everything from Jay-Z to opera singer Maria Callas (very interesting). He was also asked such ridiculous fluff questions such as if he knew that Lindsay Lohan was sent to jail (he did know that), and also if he knows who "Snooki" is from the Jersey Shore (he didn't seem to know who she was).

Lauryn Hill returning slowly, but surely...
Well, a new song called "Repercussions" has been leaked onto the Internet (it's incredible!) She has also been making appearances at live shows (playing Bob Marley tunes). What gives? Is there finally a new CD after almost 10 years? I refuse to be teased any longer, but I do enjoy seeing and hearing her still. She should stop singing Bob Marley's songs and start singing her own though. The clip is from a recent live festival where she performed.

New Jersey Housewife Danielle Staub sings "Real Close" with Lesbian Superstar Lorie Micheals
Well, I guess she can sing. The notorious New Jersey housewife appears to be into ladies now or maybe just "Lesbian Superstar" Lori Micheals. Not sure if she is now a lesbian or just wants to get the publicity out of having us think that she might be one. I think the performance is kind of funny. "Why am I so scared to be close to you...so close to you, real close to you...real close. Too funny!

New Movie "Inception"...WOW!
I can't even begin to tell you how great this film was. It just opened on July 16th, and I was fortunate to have seen it at the IMAX (which I highly recommend). This film completely blew me away, it was fantastic. Actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were all incredible as well as the very creepy Oscar-winning Marion Cotillard. The plot took some following, but it was definitely worth seeing. I can't say I've seen anything quite like it (the Matrix somehow comes to mind because of its trippy special effects and distorted reality).
I can't even begin to tell you what this film is about, it's quite complex, but it does involve the characters weaving and altering dreams. It completely blew my mind. I think my mouth dropped open several times while I was watching the special effects. A must-see. It was worth every dime of the $15 that I paid at the IMAX. Go see this movie in theatres, it might not be as great if you watch it at home. It was a little long running at 2 hours and 26 minutes, just don't see the latest showing like I did. This will be my prediction for the Oscar's Best Picture for next year.

New show "Undercovers" on NBC
This new fall NBC series looks promising. I was shocked at seeing African-Americans as the leads in a series (outside of BET), so that alone makes it interesting for me. I enjoy the main star Boris Kodjoe and secretly wish that I could be him. The show is created by "Lost" creator J.J. Abrams (which is a huge bonus for me). Looks sort of like a black "Mr. and Mrs.Smith" with a married couple that are undercover secret agents. Here's a sneak peek of the new show. Looks exciting.

M.I.A.'s new Jam "XXXO"
M.I.A.,who I always love, has a brand new song and album coming out this month on July 13th. She seems to be causing controversy all over the place these days. One of her new videos was pulled from YouTube due to nudity and violence. She got into a verbal altercation with a journalist and then out of spite Tweeted the journalist's phone number to hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers (that'll show 'em to mess with her). That was pretty awesome. Maybe these antics will help her sell some records. In the meantime, her new song is pretty good. Take a listen.

Angelina Jolie in "Salt" trailer
I get so excited about the Summer movies. This one looks exciting as well. The word on the street is that this project was originally written for Tom Cruise and then he backed out of the project at the last minute and they offered the role to Angie. I love that she is just as strong as Tom Cruise and can play the same roles as a man. Looks promising and she usually delivers with the action sequences and stunts (also looks better than those crappy Tomb Raider films).
