Shutter Island

Shutter Island came out this weekend and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, and Michelle Williams and is directed by Martin Scorcese. The movie is about 2 detectives (DiCaprio and Ruffalo) who visit an asylum for the criminally insane because a patient has escaped. The asylum is located on this creepy island and almost immediately strange things start to happen. For starters, there appears to be absolutely no way that the patient could have escaped. How did she get out? Is she still in the asylum somewhere? These are the questions that you are supposed to ask yourself. Ghosts and gory images from the past begin to pop up along with all sorts of creepiness while Leo tries to figure out what is going on.

The movie has a "twist" ending which I figured out within the first 30 minutes (but don't let this deter you, it's still good even if you figure it all out). Not being a usual fan of Scorcese's directing, I already knew the movie would probably run about 30 minutes to an hour longer than it should be (true to form it was). All of the actors, especially DiCaprio, put in excellent performances. In my opinion, this might be Leo's best performance that I have seen so far. The movie was worth the $7 that I paid to see it.

This one sounds lukewarm. I love DiCaprio but will probably wait for bootleg. LOL. Thanks for the review!
