Erykah Badu's New Video for "Out My Mind, Just In Time"

Erykah has a new video that she directed herself for "Out My Mind, Just In Time (Movement 1)." She does an interesting interpretive dance number in what looks like a nightgown. It's very simple, but it somehow works. It's one of my favorite songs on her CD "New Amerykah: Part II (Return of the Ankh).

"Bounce" featuring Kelis

I think I love this song. I just couldn't stop bouncing my head to it. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am Kelis' biggest supporter. Any track that has Kelis on it, will have me right there listening to it (she just adds a certain something to any song). So this Calvin Harris track featuring Kelis is nonetheless a hit for me. Calvin Harris is a Scottish DJ/Producer, some might say similar to David Guetta. One of the comments on YouTube said that this song "sounds like an amazing Nintendo game from the 80's" I agree, but in a good way. It would have been nice to see more of Kelis in the video though.

Bjork's New "App" Album Biophilia

The more I hear about Bjork's new upcoming project "Biophilia," the stranger and stranger it sounds. From the description, it sounds as if you will have to buy Apple computer applications in order to have the music. It just seems as if she would have to release a physical CD version in order for it to sell, right? I am her biggest fan, but I refuse to buy "apps" to hear or enjoy her music. That just crosses some sort of technological boundary lines for me. If this happens to be the case, it will be interesting to see how the world reacts to this new revolutionary "concept" of hers. I also tried to go to her official website and you now have to install something to even enter the website (I must say that it scared me away). I do consider myself a man of the future, I'm just not sure that I like being forced into new concepts when I am not ready for them.

This is Wikipedia's description for Biophilia: "The album is "partly recorded" on an iPad and will be released in the form of a series of apps. Biophilia will be the world's "first app album" in collaboration with Apple. Björk has described the project, directed by Michel Gondry,as a multimedia collection "encompassing music, apps, Internet, installations and live shows". Material from the album will debut during a concert series to be held this summer at the Manchester International Festival."

Beyonce's new video for "Run The World (Girls)"

I don't quite know what to think of this new Beyonce song and video for "Run The World (Girls)." I think I could do without this one. I do like her dancing and choreography (she's dancing pretty hard-core). The song leaves something to be desired though, I almost wanted to mute the song and just watch the video. Maybe the follow up singles will be better.

Funny Sonic Vampire Commercial

I thought this commercial was pretty funny. He seems so hurt by her hatred of vampires.

Lauryn Hill live on Jimmy Fallon

Lauryn Hill did a performance on Jimmy Fallon celebrating Bob Marley Week (it is the 30th anniversary of his death). So interesting that she can show up to sing Bob Marley tunes, but barely has time to perform or promote her own songs. SING YOUR OWN SONGS MS. LAURYN HILL!! I'm not sure why she suddenly thinks that Bob Marley's songs are now hers to be singing all the time, but anyway here she is.

SBTRKT featuring Little Dragon

SBTRKT is an anonymous masked British DJ and producer who has a new song featuring one of my current favorites Little Dragon. The song is called "Wildfire" and it is pretty great. You can grab a free download at his website if you sign up for his mailing list at http://sbtrkt.com/wildfire.php. I highly recommend that you do. It is currently my favorite song (I have to say that his mask freaks me out a little bit because he never shows his face).

Solange Knowles "Left Hand Drive"

For anyone who doesn't know already, Solange is Beyonce's younger sister who also sings. It's sad that she is always being compared to her sister, but her music is actually very different and quite lovely at times. Solange's music has a more subtle, earthy kind of tone that I enjoy. Here is a link to her new song called "Left Hand Drive" (she wrote lyrics over a Boards of Canada instrumental track). I found myself humming it and playing it on repeat.

Hope Gets Fired on Celebrity Apprentice

This episode was so good, I was on the edge of my seat when they got to the board room. NeNe Leakes was chewing off the head of Star Jones and spitting it back out and then attacking the rest of her team. Then the show was preempted by the killing of Osama Bin Laden, so no one got to see who got fired. I was so upset that I didn't get to see who was fired (I felt so empty after having watched almost 2 hours of TV without the resolution of a firing). I do realize that Bin Laden was important enough to interrupt television programming, but for those who needed to see the actual firing, here is a small clip of Hope getting the boot.

Ms.Lauryn Hill, you are forgiven

OK, So I've been talking a lot of smack about Ms. Lauryn Hill (please refer to my earlier posting about Ms. Hill and her attidude at some of her recent live shows. It's called "Lauryn Hill 3 Hours late for concert"). I was fortunate enough to catch her live show here in Austin at Stubbs on May 1st. She was just a little late this time, we got over it. Overall, it was a pretty decent show. She looked great (like the Lauryn Hill I remembered and she sounded excellent. Her band was a little strange (white alternative rockers), and the sound quality was pretty terrible. She really should have done a sound check, the feedback and distortion was bad at times. Ms. Hill only performed songs from her 1998 classic album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," Fugees hits, and a couple of Bob Marley tunes. My main complaint was that she has new songs, but chose not to perform any of those. Her old songs are good but are now staler than stale because I have heard them so many times.

She had a nice energy and connection with the audience and seemed genuinely pleased to be performing for us (that's all I wanted really). It was nice to hear her and she was pretty amazing to see live. Thank you Ms. Hill.
