Angelina Jolie in "Salt" trailer

I get so excited about the Summer movies. This one looks exciting as well. The word on the street is that this project was originally written for Tom Cruise and then he backed out of the project at the last minute and they offered the role to Angie. I love that she is just as strong as Tom Cruise and can play the same roles as a man. Looks promising and she usually delivers with the action sequences and stunts (also looks better than those crappy Tomb Raider films).

The Smurfs Movie trailer

This movie is gonna suck so bad. I used to love the Smurfs (actually, I still do) but of course they have to go and ruin a good thing. First of all they made them all phony and CGI-looking. Then they take them away from their village and make them come to New York (how stupid is that?)

Here's the dumb ass plot: "When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours -- in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down."

Didn't the movie studios learn anything from ruining that Bewitched movie? I fear the same for the Smurfs. We'll see.

Kelis' new video "Fourth of July (Fireworks)"

Kelis was on the Tonight Show performing her new song "Fourth of July (Fireworks)." It was pretty good. I'm still adjusting to her new electro-dance sound, but she still sounds awesome electro or not. I had almost forgotten how much I loved her voice. Couldn't find a live clip, so just attached the new video instead.

Huggies Denim Diapers...too silly

This is one of the silliest commercials that I have ever seen. I think I actually laughed out loud when I saw it because I thought it was a joke. It's no joke. They say "For a limited time only!" as if people are just gonna rush out immediately (or maybe they will) to get these silly things. My favorite lines in the commercial are "When it's #2, I look like #1" and also the classic line "I poo in blue." Too silly, check it out.

The "LOST" Encyclopedia

So even after the show has concluded, they are still stringing us along and withholding answers. The producers have been holding out these answers, so that they can get us to buy the DVD set and this new 400 page encyclopedia that is "supposed" to be all-inclusive and answering even more questions that were never addressed during the show. Their scheme is working, I want both the DVD set and the encyclopedia. Both will not be released until August, 24th. So again we wait. I just hope they are worth the wait.

Salma Hayek's snake freak out

During an interview for her new movie called "Grown Ups," a snake slithers onto the interview set and the star just completely freaks out. She is terrified and totally loses her cool. I thought this was interesting because years before, I distinctly remember Salma doing a pretty raunchy striptease (with a large snake)in "From Dusk 'Til Dawn." Now that I know how afraid she is of snakes, I realize what a good actress she really is (not really).

Stolen Ashes

This was the saddest story I ever heard. An Austin woman was preparing for a memorial service for her deceased father, she was carrying around her father's cremated ashes in her purse (why she would carry her father's ashes around in her purse is any one's guess). She left the purse in her car and the purse was then stolen along with the ashes that she had left inside her purse. Now the poor lady can't have a proper memorial service without her father's ashes. So sad! The funeral home is now offering $500 for the return of the ashes. I hope she gets them back, but she probably will not. I can just see some whacked out dope fiend tasting the ashes to see if they are drugs and then throwing them into the garbage. Poor lady. I guess the moral of this story is to not keep your parents in your purse at any time.

"Unschooling"

Unschooling is a controversial new educational trend that has been popping up on all the news stations. According to Wikipedia, "Unschooling refers to a range of educational philosophies and practices centered on allowing children to learn through their natural life experiences, including child directed play, game play, household responsibilities, work experience and social interaction, rather than through a more traditional school curriculum."

In my opinion, it seems dangerous to give children so much authority at a young age. What if they decide that they don't want to do anything at all? And how will this help to prepare them for the real world? I feel that this will give children an unhealthy assumption that they will always be able to control everything in their lives and they will be in for a rude awakening when they go to attend college (if they should choose to do so). "Unschooling encourages exploration of activities led by the children themselves, facilitated by the adults." Wouldn't most children prefer this kind of learning if they were given a choice? Kids would also like to have pizza and ice cream for every meal, should we allow that as well? Where do we draw the line? It's sort of like that Rolling Stones song that says "You can't always get what you want..."

Pee Wee Herman is back!

I was, and probably still am, a huge fan of the "Pee Wee Herman Show". I was really excited to see him on the View and he still looks pretty much the same after all this time. His show is back, but it will now be on Broadway. Maybe if it does really well, they'll make another movie for him or bring his show back in some way. I have such good memories about watching his show in my childhood. He says it will basically be the same show, but in front of a live audience. I'm glad today's youth will be able to enjoy him as I once did.

The Boondocks, Season 3

The Boondocks Season 3 has started up again on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. This show is usually very clever and well written, if not controversial. I had been patiently awaiting new episodes, only to find that I don't like this new season as much as the previous two. It seems like the show is going in the more for shock value route such as shows like South Park and Family Guy. I don't mind the shock so much, as long as they are funny. The episodes that have aired so far have been slightly disappointing and not very funny. One episode was so completely boring that I never finished the episode. Some others have just been too shocking, such as the one about Barack Obama which featured the song "D*** Ridin' Obama". I hope the remaining episodes will bring the laughs back. Shock might bring new viewers in, but the comedy is what will keep everyone watching. Bring back the comedy please.
