"Just Wright" Trailer

This new Queen Latifah/Common romantic comedy looks promising. The always beautiful Paula Patton plays Latifah's sidekick. It is about a professional basketball player, Common, who injures himself and who is then rehabilitated by a physical therapist played by Queen Latifah. My guess is they fall in love at some point. Looks pretty straightforward and uncomplicated. Here's a look at the trailer. Film will be coming out in May.

New Show "Happy Town" on ABC

Happy Town is ABC's new mid season replacement series that will be airing on April 28th. The story takes place in the picture-perfect fictional town of Haplin, Minnesota where nothing ever happens and no crimes are ever committed. Suddenly, dead bodies begin stacking up and everyone in town has motives and secrets(seems like my kind of a show). Sounds interesting enough, only besides the fact that we have already seen this exact same plot before (remember Twin Peaks, where everything appeared so perfect on the surface?)

Now that Lost is concluding, I will be searching for a new TV obsession. I'll give it a try, it may not last very long though (these types of shows get you involved, but often get cancelled before anything gets resolved). Check out the preview below.

The Oscars...

The 82nd Annual Oscars aired this past Sunday. I'm usually a big fan of the Oscars and all the hoopla that comes along. It is exciting to see actors that you care about getting acknowledged. This year I was underwhelmed. Out of the 10 films that were nominated for Best Picture, I only saw 2 (Avatar and Precious). I find it hard to get excited about films and actors that I have never heard of. Hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were funny enough (I probably could have done without one of them, sorry Alec). The winners were equally underwhelming. Mo'Nique, who in my opinion is not a very good actress outside her role for Precious, won Best Supporting Actress. She was alright in the film, not Oscar-worthy. Sandra Bullock won Best Actress for "Blind Side"(could care less about her). Jeff Bridges won for Best Actor, he is consistently great and his win is probably overdue.

The only great thing that I saw this year, was the tribute to late director John Hughes. His films were liked by so many and he made a lot of young actors very big stars. Molly Ringwald, Matthew Broderick and Macauley Culkin all had fond memories of the director and very nice things to say about him (as did many of the other "Brat-packers" who appeared in his films). It was a very touching tribute to him. The tribute to horror films was also a nice change. Not my favorite Oscar Awards presentation though.

Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland"

I have previously blogged about this movie being rehash, but have changed my mind upon viewing the film. My previous complaint, was that Tim Burton has become unoriginal. He seems to only redo classics and other people's stories nowadays. I couldn't imagine why we would need yet another version of Alice in Wonderland. What I didn't know was that this a sequel of sorts. The story follows 13 years after the original story. The new Alice is an adult who is about to become married and ends up following The White Rabbit once again and ending up back in Wonderland.

My thanks to Tim Burton for at least bringing in some sort of a new story here. The special effects are breathtaking and somewhat reminiscent to Lord of the Rings. The old characters are all still there (The Mad Hatter, The Caterpillar, a creepy version of the Cheshire Cat, and The Red Queen). Longtime Burton collaborators, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp were appropriately cast. Helena Bonham Carter was a standout as the evil Red Queen. The only weak link here was Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, who didn't seem interesting enough to fit into Tim Burton's twisted world. Newcomer Mia Wasikowska was a very strong Alice and at one point puts on a knight suit to fight a dragon-like creature (extremely girl-powerish). A must see.

Naomi Campbell slaps someone again

Can you believe that she has never done time for any of her assaults? The list goes on and on. In 2000, she assaulted her then assistant with a telephone. In 2005, she slapped another assistant and beat her around the head with a Blackberry. In 2006, she assaulted a housekeeper with a bejeweled cell phone that resulted in a bloody head and stitches. In 2007, she assaulted another housekeeper this time she was sentenced to go to anger management courses (a lot of help that did). In 2008, she assaulted a police officer after some of her bags went missing on a British airline. This time she was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and a fine. This month she assaulted a limo driver by slapping and punching him (he didn't press charges just like the rest of her previous staff that she assaulted). Someone should press charges and send her to jail for a while, then she would probably stop assaulting people.

Gorillaz back with "Stylo"

Gorillaz, every one's favorite cartoon band are back with a new single called "Stylo" and a new album called "Plastic Beach" that comes out on March 9th. The new song also features rapper Mos Def and 70's soul singer Bobby Womack and sounds like 3 different songs that have been pieced together (Gorillaz songs often sound this way). It never surprises me to see where Mos Def will pop up, but wonder what made them dig up Bobby Womack for this track? Womack has been inactive for quite a while now (he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009). The song is bizarre, but still intriguing. Please have a listen.

Tiger Woods' No. 1 mistress given correspondent deal on "Extra"

Rachel Uchitel, the first of Tiger Woods' mistresses to be outed has now been offered a job to work as a special correspondent for tabloid T.V. show "Extra." The show has never been known for having a high level of journalistic morality, but it seems to have sunken to an all time low. Are they so desperate for ratings that they would need to offer her a job? She is neither celebrity nor journalist and her only claim to fame is having a high profile affair with a famous married man (there are rumours that she is contemplating posing for Playboy as well). I cannot fault her for trying to get the most out of her 15 minutes of fame, but "Extra" should be ashamed of themselves for further exploiting her. I'm sure she'll get along well with co-worker/slutbag Mario Lopez.
